Paid Post Partum Leave

Recognizing the medical reality of childbirth and postpartum recovery for women physicians, the CH Physicians Organization (PO) endorsed in July 2001 a new maternity leave policy of a minimum of 8 weeks paid leave for all women physicians who are a part of the PO, working 0.5 FTE or greater. These eight weeks are considered part of the Federal and Medical Family Leave Act (FMLA) and the Massachusetts Medical Leave Act (MMLA).

  • Bright Horizons Child Care Center
    The center is located in the Landmark Building on the corner of Brookline Ave., and the Fenway, the Bright Horizon's Family Center serves families from several area hospitals and Harvard Medical School. The center operates from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, under an "open door" policy which parents of enrolled children are welcome at any time. The Work/Life Liaison at Harvard Longwood would like to introduce you to the new wealth of family resources and information now available:

  • Child Care - Help in determining your child care needs is available. Information regarding: breast feeding at work, child care centers, family child care homes, in-home child care agencies, after school programs, preschools, finding a babysitter, public and private schools, school vacation programs, summer camps.
  • Elder Care -Help in identifying community resources and services is available to those caring for their elderly relatives: home health care services, hospice care, legal issues, housing options, Medicare and Medicaid policies, respite care, support groups, transportation, and visiting nurses.
  • Lunchtime Programs and Seminars - Experts address topics related to balancing work and family life. Programs are for parents with children of all ages, as well as those caring for aging relatives. Telephone: 617-432-1615

Work/Life at Harvard Longwood

Back-up child and adult care is now provided by The rate is $7.50 per hour; once the care is complete and the hours have been confirmed, your credit card will be charged for the hourly co-payment.  There is no need to submit for reimbursement and you don't need to exchange any form of payment with the care-giver. Clinician Support, Office of (OCS)

The Office of Clinician Support provides a safe place for physicians to discuss and resolve a wide range of work place and personal issues. The OCS provides a blend of services ranging from creating awareness of work-engendered stresses, to discussions about work-related and personal concerns, to mental health assessments, to crisis interventions. All clinicians are seen at no charge with referrals to outside professionals as needed. OCS staff will make arrangements to meet at a convenient time, usually within 24-48 hours.
